At the International Board Meeting held at Windsor, SI Nantwich has been awarded the Best Practice Recognition Award in the programme action area of Education for the SET UP Science programme. The citation for the award is:
Every year since 1996, to mark National Science Week in March, the Club has organised a series of talks, demonstrations and visits to places of scientific interest for schoolchildren. Members decided to extend this programme and organised a Public Evening of Science Entertainment for families as well as a competition for GCSE and 'A' level students in the summer. Their aim was to stimulate children's interest in a career in science, engineering and technology by presenting them with exciting demonstrations. Female presenters were used to encourage girls to choose careers previously thought to be the male domain. The schools programme caters for 100 events and was attended by 3500 children between 4 - 18 years while the family evening drew ages 5 - 75 years.
